Every year, the US government organizes an international lottery for potential immigrants who want to live in the United States. Almost 50 000 green cards have been distributed thought the world.

For many immigrants, this green card is a doorway toward fulfilling their dreams and running away from poverty or natural disasters in their own country. Selection is truly lottery-based, offering a chance to those that don’t necessarily have the strongest applicant profile.

But this initiative leads to some inconvenient practices used by malicious people. Some people take advantage of aspiring immigrants, creating a flourishing business : firms that offer “assistance” and “advice” to help fill out the green card lottery form.

The US immigration department is very skeptical about these firms and warns on its website that the US government is the only trustworthy source of information.

The other threat is Phishing. Indeed, the green card lottery is web-based and all participants fill and send their critical information via the Internet. To implement the phishing system, some people create websites which promise that they can increase your chances for success by applying via their web-platforms.
