Why wait? Join your partner and live in Canada!

To promote family unity, Canada has established the reunion of couples in genuine relationships as its no.1 immigration priority. Canadian citizens or permanent residents, who are at least 18 years old, can sponsor their opposite or same sex common-law partner or conjugal partner to come and settle with them in Canada.

If your application is accepted, you will be granted a visa of permanent residency.

What qualifications are required?

There are 2 different visa partner categories:

Common law partner (same or opposite sex)

In order to comply with Canadian immigration regulations on partner’s visa, you must be over 16 years old and have been continuously living with a Canadian citizen or permanent resident (same or opposite sex) in a marital relationship for at least one year. Temporary absences for short periods of time for business travel or family reasons can be tolerated.

Your Canadian sponsor will have to be at least 18 years old and legally undertake to provide for your essential needs for a period of 3 years.

Note that the Canadian immigration authorities will want to see strong supporting documentation to the effect that your relationship is genuine and continuing.

Conjugal partner (same or opposite sex)

In order to comply with Canadian immigration regulations on partner’s visa, you must be over 16 years old and have been in a continuous marital relationship with a Canadian citizen or permanent resident (same or opposite sex) for a minimum of one year but exceptional circumstances beyond your control have prevented you from living together or getting married.

What are the benefits of Partner Visa?

If your application is successful, you will be issued a visa of permanent residency in Canada. This visa will allow you to indefinitely live in Canada and work for any employer in any occupation. You will also have the right to study in any Canadian university under the same conditions as a Canadian citizen. In a nutshell, this visa gives you the same rights as those of a Canadian citizen, with the exception of the right to vote and obtain a Canadian passport. After 3 years of permanent residency in Canada, you will be entitled to claim the Canadian citizenship.

In addition to having free access to one of the best health care systems in the world, as a permanent resident or Canadian citizen, you will also be given access to one of the world's most renown education systems, which is free for all students in public schools at the primary and secondary level.

What are the processing costs?

Governmental processing fees may vary between CAD$ 1 040 and CAD$ 1 290 depending on the province in Canada in which your Canadian sponsor resides.

Note that additional costs may be associated with the processing of your visa application, such as English or French proficiency language testing, medical examination, police clearance certificates and mailing / courier costs.

How long will it take?

Depending on the country where the application is filed, the time required to obtain a permanent residency visa can vary between 12 and 36 months. Processing times may be hindered by the number of applications received and the capacity of each visa post to deal with them. Although some variations exist from one office to another, the system requires that all the necessary documentation be submitted at the time the file is opened.
