Canada is Student-Friendly

The number of international college student enrolments has more than doubled over the last five years. In 2022, Canada hosted over 550,000 international students at the post-secondary education level.

Despite the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic, Canada demonstrated its continued support of international students. The federal government is making it easier than ever to submit an application for a Canadian study permit.

In 2022, Canada welcomed more than 550,000 international students from over 184 countries across the globe.

Studying in Canada opens a lot of doors to immigrating to Canada permanently, whether they be through a provincial nominee program or through a federal immigration program. Canada increasingly views international students as the ideal immigration candidate. A report from Statistics Canada revealed that 6 in 10 international students that worked during their studies or after graduation became Canadian permanent residents.

The Canadian Economy is Booming

According to a recent report from Statistics Canada, the Canadian economy has surpassed pre-pandemic levels and continues to grow.

A strong Canadian economy and job market mean that Canada’s need for foreign workers increases. This is good news for prospective permanent residents and work permit seekers.

You Can Make Canada Your Forever Home

Canada consistently ranks among the top countries in the world.

While a skilled worker could potentially wait decades before obtaining permanent residence in the US, the Canadian immigration system allows eligible skilled workers to receive permanent residence status and move to Canada as soon as 6 months after applying.

Canadian permanent residents have the right to live and work anywhere in Canada, plus access to Canadian universal healthcare and social services.

The Canadian Dream is the New American Dream

The number of immigrants coming to Canada has been on the rise over the past few years. From 2017 to 2021, Canada’s immigration numbers rose by about 40%.

Meanwhile, in the United States, immigration numbers fell by about 40% between 2016 and 2020.

American companies are also looking to Canada for better opportunities to recruit overseas skilled workers.

According to Pearl Law’s 2020 survey of global mobility, managers across key industries found that 83% of managers are now more likely to place their foreign talent in other countries such as Canada; and 68% that already have operations in Canada and have sent people there before, now expect to send more.

As U.S. immigration programs became more restrictive, Canada welcomed an unprecedented number of newcomers in the wake of COVID-19.

Improved Immigration System

Although the COVID-19 pandemic caused bureaucratic pains for applicants and immigration practitioners alike, it also paved the way for Canada to implement a more efficient system. Despite a substantial application backlog, in recent months Canada has picked up processing at an unprecedented rate. In the past year, the Canadian immigration authorities streamlined many application processes in order to meet the country’s growing labour demands.

Foreign nationals who are interested in making the move to Canada should not be deterred by the limitations of the pandemic, but should see it as an opportunity, and the beginning of their Canadian immigration journey.
