Canadian citizens and permanent residents who meet certain eligibility criteria are able to sponsor their parents or grandparents for permanent residence in Canada. Family reunification is a high priority for Canada. In fact, family immigration is the second largest category of Canadian immigration, behind economic immigration.

As of December 14, 2016, the Parent and Grandparent Program no longer operates on a first-come, first-served model of application submission.

Instead, eligible candidates will have 30 days to fill out an online form to indicate their interest to sponsor their parent or grandparent for Canadian permanent residence. At the end of this 30 day period, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will randomly choose 10,000 individuals from the pool of forms it has received. Those 10,000 people will be invited to submit their complete application package. Incomplete or inaccurate applications will not be accepted.

A Super Visa is a multiple re-entry visa valid for up 10 years so your parents or grandparents can come and go from Canada as they please.

In addition to the Super Visa, Canadian Permanent Residents and Citizens will be eligible to sponsor their parents and grandparents to live here permanently under the re-opened Parental Sponsorship category!
