Province of Alberta Invites Express Entry Candidates with CRS as Low as 303

Canada’s western province of Alberta has recently updated their draw history to reveal two significant rounds of invitations that took place in July 2019. The province issued over 650 Notifications of Interest (NOI) to candidates in the Federal Express Entry pool last month, including candidates with a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of just 303 in the latest draw. This cut-off is dramatically lower than recent draws we have seen conducted in the Federal Express Entry pool.

With recent Express Entry draws targeting applicants with a minimum CRS around the 450 mark, Alberta’s low CRS requirements mean more candidates in the pool will have a chance at receiving a Notification of Interest from the province. With a NOI in hand, selected applicants will immediately be able to submit an immigration application to the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program. If successful, candidates will secure a nomination from the province and 600 additional points to their Express Entry CRS score, essentially ensuring they will receive an invitation to apply in the next draw.

Am I eligible for the Alberta Express Entry Stream?

The province of Alberta routinely checks the Federal Express Entry pool for profiles that match the requirements of the Alberta Express Entry Stream. Therefore, the first step in becoming eligible is to have an active profile in the Express Entry pool. The information provided in the profile will be considered by the province to determine whether the applicant meets the eligibility criteria. Candidates may receive an NOI from Alberta if they:

  • Have an active Express Entry profile
  • Have stated interest in immigrating permanently to Alberta
  • Are working in an occupation that supports Alberta’s economic development and diversification
  • Have a minimum CRS score of 300

Having one or more of the following factors may increase your likelihood to be accepted:

  • Holding an Alberta job offer or work experience
  • Being a graduate of a Canadian post-secondary school
  • Having a relative that is living in Alberta: parent, child, brother and/or sister

Now the Best Time to Receive an Invitation

The province of Alberta has the ability to nominate up to 6,000 applicants for immigration to the province in 2019. So far, Alberta has issued 3,385 nominations to primary applicants and their families, meaning 2,615 spaces remain for eligible candidates this year. With the current CRS cut-off for Alberta sitting at just 303, now is the best time to take advantage of immigration to the province!
