February 27, 2017: The International PhD Graduate Stream reached its registration intake limit on February 24, 2017. Both the International Masters Graduate and International PhD Graduate streams are now temporarily paused. The OINP will resume accepting applications for these streams within the next three months. If you completed a registration for this stream and received a confirmation number from the OINP e-Filing system, you can continue with your application
Just three days ago, the three popular Ontario immigration streams began accepting new applications. The International Masters Graduate, International PhD Graduate, and Express Entry Human Capital Priorities streams all reopened on a online application system.
While the International Masters and PhD Graduates streams accept applications from all eligible candidates, only candidates from the Express Entry pool that have received a Notification of Interest from the OINP are eligible to apply to the Express Entry Human Capital Priorities Stream.
When the programs reopened, the OINP announced that we could expect them to open and close periodically throughout the year to ensure processing efficiency. As of yesterday, the International Masters Graduate Stream reached its registration intake limit. It’s now temporarily paused, but is expected to reopen for more new applications within the next three months.
To be clear, the stream reached its registration intake limit, not its application intake limit. To submit an application, eligible applicants need to first register with the OINP on their eFiling system. Once they receive a confirmation number from the OINP, they have successfully registered and have seven days to submit a complete application to the stream.
If you’re eligible for the International Masters Graduates Stream but did not manage to register, don’t worry! You will have another chance when the program reopens. But the fact that this stream reached its registration limit after only two days reconfirms that people hoping to apply to these types of programs need to prepare their applications well in advance.
If you did complete your registration on the OINP eFiling system and received a confirmation number, you can proceed with your application.
The federal government allocated 6,000 provincial nominations to the OINP for 2017. That quota will be divided among all of the streams the OINP runs for the year. The OINP has not set definite quotas for each stream, and instead announced they would be monitoring applications to all streams and allocate nominations based on demand. Since the International Masters Graduates Stream filled so quickly, it’s possible that the OINP will increase the stream’s intake limit.
For now, the International PhD Graduates and Express Entry Human Capital Priorities streams are still open.
