Pakistan Students Can Now Get a Study Permit Through Canada’s Student Direct Stream

The government of Canada recently announced that the Student Direct Stream has expanded to include Pakistan. The study-based program was launched last year to make the process of obtaining a study permit easier and faster for international students coming from popular countries.

Canada continues to be a top destination for international students who are looking for a quality education. When first introduced, the Student Direct Stream (SDS) was targeted to prospective students living in China, India, Vietnam, and the Philippines. Pakistan has now been added to the list, and those interested are welcomed to apply for a Canadian study permit through the SDS

In addition to being a resident of one of the five eligible countries, applicants must have all the required documents, including an acceptance letter from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) and demonstrated financial resources. Most SDS applications are processed in under three weeks.

A Growing Global Interest in Canadian Education

More international students are choosing Canadian schools over other English-speaking study destinations such as the United States. In 2018, there were 572,415 international students in Canada, with a 20% increase in enrollment from the previous year. Some of these major factors drawing international students to the country include Canada’s accessibility of obtaining a student visa, lower cost of tuition and living, and overall attitude towards newcomers.

International students have the option of applying for a Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) after completing their studies at a Canadian institution. The PGWP allows recent graduates to work in Canada for up to three years. Having a Canadian education and  work experience will put them on an excellent path towards attaining permanent residence through the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) of the Federal  Express Entry system.
