Quebec Graduate Stream of the PEQ Temporarily Suspended

The Ministry of Immigration for Quebec has announced a temporary suspension on intake of applications under the Quebec Graduate stream of the Programme de l’expérience québécoise or PEQ. New applications will no longer be accepted, unless they meet one of two exceptions. The suspension is expected to remain in effect until November 2019.

Two groups of candidates may still apply

The temporary suspension does not apply to two groups of candidates. The following people will be able to submit applications for PEQ during its suspension:

  1. Graduates who have a valid work permit as of July 10th, 2019 that expires before November 1st, 2019.
  2. Those who had previous applications terminated with the passing of Quebec’s Bill 9 in June 2019.

Options for those affected:

For International students who are no longer able to submit an application to the stream, there are still other immigration options to consider.

Quebec graduates who wish to remain in Quebec may still apply for a Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP). Permit holders are able to work full-time in Canada for any employer in the country, for a period of up to three years. This allows international graduates to gain valuable Canadian work experience, making them strong candidates for many immigration programs, including the federal Canadian Experience Class under the Express Entry system, which results in permanent resident status for successful applicants.
