The Live-in Caregiver Program & Canadian Immigration

Live-in Caregiver

09 Oct, 2013 The Live-in Caregiver Program & Canadian Immigration

Did you know: The Live-in Caregiver Program is a great way for someone with, or without, a nursing degree to apply for Canadian Permanent Residence. After two years of full-time employment in Canada (3900 hours), working as a live-in caregiver, you are eligible to apply for Canadian Immigration, but first you have to obtain the job offer, and then apply for the work visa.

In some cases you can even apply before your two years of experience in Canada are done but it will depend on your qualifications. The best way to find out is to complete our free online assessment or send us your CV to attorney@canadim.com

Requirements:

  1. A positive Labour Market Opinion (LMO) from your Canadian employer
  2. A written contract between you and your future employer to Service Canada’s standards/specifications
  3. Proof of Canadian secondary school equivalency, in most cases 12 years of formal education
  4. In the last three years, you have:

At least 6 months of training as a caregiver OR

One year of experience working as a caregiver, nurse or related occupation

      Dear Zel,

      Thank you for your post.

It will depend on when you apply for PR. Right now the processing is a little slow but they have recently made efforts to speed up the applications for live-in caregivers. That being said, you will get an open work permit while your application is processing so you can work anywhere you like in Canada while you are awaiting your PR visa.

If you would like our assistance filing your caregiver application, please don’t hesitate to let us know at attorney@canadim.com

      Sincerely,
