How Our Spousal Sponsorship Lawyers Build Your Case

01

Legal Assessment

A Canadian immigration lawyer reviews your relationship, status, and intended province of residence — then identifies the strongest sponsorship stream for your case: inland, outland, or Quebec.

02

Lawyer-Prepared Filing

Our legal team prepares every document, drafts the relationship narrative, and assembles the evidence package. Submitted through the Authorized Representative Portal so all IRCC correspondence comes to us, not you.

03

Refusal & Delay Defence

We respond to procedural fairness letters, additional document requests, and visa-officer concerns about the genuineness of your relationship — so a single misstep doesn't cost you a refusal.

Why Hire a Lawyer for Spousal Sponsorship?

Spousal sponsorship applications are refused for predictable, preventable reasons: incomplete forms, insufficient proof of a genuine relationship, missing police certificates, and inconsistencies between forms and supporting documents. Most refusals trace back to errors that a trained legal eye would have caught.

A Canadian immigration lawyer doesn't just fill out forms — they build a legal case. We frame your relationship narrative for the visa officer, identify weak points before IRCC does, and respond to procedural fairness letters that DIY applicants often miss until it's too late.

When you work with Canadim, an immigration lawyer is responsible for your file from the legal assessment through to your spouse's permanent residence confirmation. Every decision is made by someone qualified to make it.

A Canadian Immigration Law Firm Built Around Sponsorship Cases

With over 23 years of practice and thousands of approved sponsorship applications, Canadim is one of Canada's most established immigration law firms. Our lawyers are members of the Association québécoise des avocats et avocates en droit de l'immigration (AQAADI), the Barreau du Québec, and the Ontario Bar Association.

Spousal, common-law, and conjugal partner sponsorship — including the longer-processing Quebec stream — is one of our core practice areas. Every application is prepared by legal professionals who know exactly what IRCC and visa officers are looking for. No call centres, no junior staff making strategic decisions on your file.

What Sponsorship Clients Say About Our Lawyers

"I am so happy that we chose Canadim. Our case manager Jasmine is absolutely terrific. My husband was immigrating to QC and it's a very long application. Jasmine always had fast responses to all our questions over a two-year process (QC is longer). The process is stressful and grueling but they helped every step of the way making it less stressful. Worth every penny."

ALLY C.
CANADIM CLIENT

"I highly recommend this company! If you're looking for a serious and professional law firm, I strongly recommend CANADIM. A big thank you and shoutout to Jasmine! Any immigration process can feel overwhelming, so it's important to choose a team that makes you feel supported, valued, and at ease. CANADIM did exactly that for me."

DAIANA V.
CANADIM CLIENT

"I had a fantastic experience working with Canadim Law Firm. From the beginning, the communication was clear, professional, and supportive. Nadia was particularly helpful — always responsive, kind, and knowledgeable throughout the process. I felt confident every step of the way thanks to their guidance. I would highly recommend Canadim to anyone navigating immigration pathways in Canada."

Common Questions and Answers
About Hiring a Spousal Sponsorship Lawyer

Do I need a lawyer to sponsor my spouse to Canada? +

No — you are not legally required to hire a lawyer. But spousal sponsorship applications are refused for predictable reasons: incomplete documentation, insufficient proof of a genuine relationship, and inconsistencies between forms and supporting documents. A lawyer significantly reduces those risks, files through the Authorized Representative Portal, and handles all IRCC correspondence on your behalf.

What does a spousal sponsorship lawyer actually do? +

A spousal sponsorship lawyer assesses your eligibility, identifies the strongest stream for your case (inland, outland, or Quebec), prepares and reviews every required document, drafts the relationship narrative for the visa officer, and submits the complete application through the Authorized Representative Portal. From submission to permanent residence, all IRCC correspondence — including procedural fairness letters and additional document requests — comes directly to the law firm.

How much does it cost to hire a spousal sponsorship lawyer? +

Legal fees vary based on the complexity of your case — inland vs. outland, Quebec involvement, common-law evidence requirements, and any inadmissibility concerns. The initial lawyer consultation at Canadim is free and gives you a clear quote before you commit to anything. Government fees ($1,345 total for the standard application) are separate and paid directly to IRCC.

Can a lawyer help if my previous sponsorship application was refused? +

Yes. Depending on the stream and the reason for refusal, you may be able to appeal to the Immigration Appeal Division or reapply with stronger evidence. Our lawyers will review your refusal letter, obtain the GCMS notes, and identify exactly what went wrong — then build a second application that addresses those concerns directly.

What is the difference between inland and outland sponsorship — and which is better? +

Outland sponsorship is processed at a Canadian visa office abroad (approximately 15 months) and preserves the right to appeal a refusal. Inland sponsorship is processed in Canada (approximately 21 months) and the sponsored spouse may be eligible for an open work permit during processing. If you are eligible for inland, you are also eligible for outland — and outland is often strategically preferable. A lawyer will tell you which fits your specific situation.

Is spousal sponsorship different in Quebec? +

Yes — and significantly so. Quebec applicants must obtain a Certificat de sélection du Québec (CSQ) in addition to the federal application, which adds provincial review, additional fees, and longer processing times (up to 35 months). Quebec also has an annual quota on the number of CSQs issued. Our lawyers are based in Montréal and are members of the Barreau du Québec — Quebec sponsorship is one of our core practice areas.

My partner and I have limited proof of our relationship. Can a lawyer still help? +

Yes — this is exactly the kind of case where legal experience matters most. Our lawyers identify creative, IRCC-accepted forms of evidence, draft affidavits from family and friends, and frame your relationship narrative around the documentation you do have. The more challenging the evidentiary picture, the more value a lawyer adds.

How fast can I speak with a lawyer? +

Submit the form above and our team will reach out within 24 to 48hrs to schedule your free legal consultation. Complex cases — refusal recovery, criminal inadmissibility, conjugal partner situations — are routed directly to a senior immigration lawyer.
