The Canadian government recently announced that all-program Express Entry draws will be resuming in early July 2022. While it may seem far away, it is important to start preparing your profile in advance to ensure you don’t miss an invitation in the next big draw.

Preparing a strong Express Entry profile may take longer than you think! Here are four reasons to start the process now:

1. You will have more time to gather all the required documents

To submit an Express Entry profile, you must secure two important documents: one to confirm your English or French language proficiency, and one to confirm the Canadian equivalence of your education.

Since your language results will determine your eligibility and ranking in the Express Entry pool, it is important to take sufficient time to prepare before sitting the exam.

Securing an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) report also takes time to secure. Most ECA reports take at least one month to process once they have received a complete application. However, because your school needs to send required documents to the organization directly, this can also slow down the process. If you are assessing more than one credential, this can further add to the delay.

If you receive an invitation to apply for permanent residency, you will have 60 days to submit several other documents confirming the information provided in your profile. Since some of these documents can take a long time to obtain, it is a good idea to start this process early.

Express Entry operates using two main point systems. One determines your eligibility to enter the pool, and the other determines your ranking.
