Canada to Lift India Flight Ban Next Week with New COVID-19 Measures

Transport Canada has announced that the flight ban from India will be extended until September 26, 2021. After the restriction has expired, travelers may enter Canada on direct flights from India while following additional COVID-19 measures.

The current travel ban in place restricts direct commercial and passenger flights from India to Canada. The restrictions were first imposed on April 22, 2021, due to India’s spike in cases of the COVID-19 Delta variant.

To ensure the new health measures are working, Canada welcomed three direct flights from India on September 22, 2021, testing all travellers for COVID-19 upon arrival.

After the travel restrictions lift, eligible travellers arriving via a direct flight from India will need to follow additional COVID-19 measures. Travellers must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 molecular test from the approved Genestrings Laboratory at the Delhi airport within 18 hours prior to scheduled departure

Fully vaccinated travellers must also upload their information into the ArriveCAN mobile app or website.

Air operators will be checking for proof of vaccination in the ArriveCAN app and proof of COVID-19 test results prior to boarding to ensure travellers are eligible to travel to Canada.

All travellers must be eligible under one of the current travel exemptions to come to Canada.

Those arriving to Canada from India via an indirect flight will need to obtain a negative COVID-19 molecular test from a third country within 72 hours of departure.

Any traveller that does not meet the additional COVID-19 measures will be denied boarding.
