Newfoundland and Labrador Launch Job Match Program Today

The Atlantic province of Newfoundland and Labrador is launching a program help fill job vacancies with newcomers seeking work in the province.

International graduates, their spouses, or those with open work permits in Canada that wish to find full-time work and settle permanently in Newfoundland and Labrador are invited to complete Newfoundland’s online registration form. The form is available from today, September 29, to October 13, 2021. The details given in the form will help department staff to match newcomer applicants to employers based on labour needs.

Employers in Newfoundland and Labrador are also encouraged to provide details of their job vacancies via the province’s online portal.

Plans to boost immigration to the province

Newfoundland and Labrador continues to make ongoing efforts to accelerate immigration to their province and plans to increase the number of permanent residents annually to 5,100 by 2026. This year, Immigration, Refugee, Citizenship Canada (IRCC) allocated the province 1,050 nominations through the Newfoundland Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP), and the entry of 442 applications under the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP). Newfoundland’s current targets will more than triple the province’s immigration levels by 2026,

Newfoundland’s newcomer settlement initiatives

To assist in the settlement of Newfoundland and Labrador’s newcomers, the province is committed to minimizing challenges many immigrants and their families face. To help ease the process for immigrants when tripling immigration levels, Newfoundland and Labrador plan to undertake the following initiatives:

  • Offering settlement services such as employment and training, foreign qualification recognition, language training, and cultural supports
  • Creating a new online application system to ease and expedite the process of newcomers arriving to Canada to settle in Newfoundland and Labrador
  • Increasing immigration staff to support newcomers navigating the immigration system
  • Providing English as a Second Language (ESL) instructors in the school system for students Kindergarten to Grade 12
