Nova Scotia Issues Invitations to Express Entry Candidates

The Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP) has announced details of two recent draws under the Labour Market Priorities Stream. Candidates that received an invitation in the most recent rounds of invitations had the primary occupation of carpenter listed on their Express Entry profile, or held an eligible job offer from a Nova Scotia employer.

The latest two draws were the third and fourth held through Nova Scotia’s Labour Market Priorities Stream this year. The previous draw was held March 29, 2021 and targeted candidates with a high proficiency in French.

To have received an invitation to apply for nomination in one of Nova Scotia’s October 7, 2021, draws, one of the following sets of requirements must have been met.

Candidates that have received a Letter of Interest (LOI) from Nova Scotia in this draw have 30 calendar days, until November 6, 2021, to submit an application for nomination to the province.

Successful nominees will receive an additional 600 points toward their CRS score, essentially guaranteeing an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence.

What is Nova Scotia’s Labour Market Priorities Stream?

The Nova Scotia Nominee Program regularly selects Express Entry candidates directly from the pool that have work experience or attributes that help meet provincial labour market needs.

In previous Labour Market Priorities draws from 2020 and 2021, the province has targeted nurses (NOC 3021), financial officers (NOC 1114), programmers and interactive media developers (NOC 2174), vehicle body repairers (NOC 7322), automotive service technicians, truck and bus mechanics and mechanical repairers (NOC 7321), and Express Entry profiles with a high Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) in French.

Candidates cannot apply to the Labour Market Priorities stream without first receiving an invitation from the province. Nova Scotia uses the Express Entry system to select candidates that meet their draw-specific criteria. To be considered, candidates must have indicated their interest in Nova Scotia on their Express Entry profile.

Labour Shortage

A recent report from Statistics Canada for the second quarter of 2021 showed record high job vacancies across Canada. Among the top sectors experiencing the highest demand included construction.

Job vacancies in the construction sector have increased by 19,900 to 62,600 over the two-year period. This is the largest number of vacancies seen in the sector since comparable data became available.
