Canada Offering More Work Opportunities in 2026

Published on: January 29th, 2026

With the current immigration climate of the world, many are worried. Some countries are closing doors or making it harder for foreign workers, however, Canada has just announced an increasing the number of LMIA-exempt work permits for 2026.

What Does This Mean?

This means that Canada is opening more doors for international workers. More people from outside Canada will be allowed to work legally through the International Mobility Program (IMP), a pathway designed to attract global talent without many of the delays found in other work permit programs.

170,000 LMIA-Exempt Work Permits in 2026

The Canadian government has confirmed in its 2026–2028 Immigration Levels Plan that 170,000 LMIA-exempt work permits will be issued in 2026. This represents an increase of approximately 32% compared to earlier immigration levels plans. Additionally, the government has confirmed that the same number will be maintained for 2027 and 2028, giving applicants even more certainty and time to plan their time in Canada accordingly. This long-term commitment from Canada allows workers, graduates, and employers to have confidence about their future in Canada.

Advantages of LMIA-Exempt Work Permits

The International Mobility Program (IMP) makes it easier for Canadian employers to hire workers from outside Canada. Under this program, employers do not need to get an LMIA, which is usually required to prove that no Canadian worker is available for the job. Because of this, LMIA-exempt work permits are often faster to process, involve less paperwork, and give workers more flexibility. This makes the IMP one of the easiest and most practical ways to work in Canada.

Good News for Workers and Employers

This announcement signifies that Canada is still open and planning for the future despite the current immigration climate. This provides an opportunity for foreign workers looking for stability and career growth, international graduates who want Canadian work experience, and Canadian employers who need faster and flexible hiring options.
