Canada Express Entry: Fund Updates

Published on: July 17th, 2025

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) recently updated their required funds list for certain express entry streams. If you are an express entry candidate, you must update your proof of funds by July 28, 2025, at the absolute latest, to ensure that you remain eligible for permanent residency (PR).

Who Does This Apply To?

This requirement applies only to applicants under the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). It does not apply to applicants under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) stream of Express Entry.

If you do not update your proof of funds by the deadline which is July 28, 2025, your profile will be removed from the pool of candidates and you will not be eligible to receive an invitation to apply (ITA) for PR.

What Is the Updated Proof of Fund Requirements?

As listed on the government website, as of July 7, 2025, for a family of 1 the required amount of funds is $14,690, for a family of 2 it’s $18,288, for a family of 3 it’s $22,483, and for any additional family member after 7 family members, it’s $3,958 for each additional family member. You can find the full list of funds relevant to the number of family members here.

Documents and Forms

Immigration forms can understandably be confusing for most people. If you are confused or not sure how to fill them out thoroughly and correctly, it is best to avoid complications and highly recommended to seek help from an immigration lawyer. Providing false information or missing important details can lead to delays, refusal, or even a 5-year ban from applying to come to Canada.
