Recognizing the ongoing situation in Iran, the Government of Canada has continued its support for Iranian nationals living in Canada.
Special immigration measures were initially introduced to assist Iranians in Canada and were set to remain in place until February 28, 2026. These supports have now been extended until March 31, 2027.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) recently announced targeted steps that allow certain Iranian nationals to extend their work permits. The goal is to support people who are already part of Canadian workplaces and communities while the situation in Iran remains unclear.
Under this measure, Iranian nationals who received a valid Canadian work permit on or before February 28, 2025, may apply to extend that permit. This gives them the opportunity to keep working, supporting themselves and their families, and continuing to contribute to the Canadian economy.
These temporary measures will remain available until March 31, 2027. Applications will still follow the usual process, and standard IRCC processing fees will apply when submitting a work permit extension.
For those who are currently in Canada as visitors or international students, the existing immigration pathways remain unchanged. Individuals who wish to extend their visitor status or study permits can continue to apply through IRCC’s regular application process.
If you are an Iranian national currently working in Canada, it may be helpful to review your permit details and plan ahead. Applying early can help ensure that you maintain your legal status and avoid interruptions in your ability to live and work in Canada.
