Immigration Updates Work Permit
With spots filling quickly, the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) conducted two rounds of invitations within two days this month under the Alberta Opportunity Stream and the Tourism and Hospitality Stream, as the province works to fill the remaining 2025 nomination spots before its full 2025 allocation is used.
The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP), is a program that gives skilled workers and entrepreneurs the opportunity to move to Alberta and eventually have a chance at qualifying for Canadian permanent residency. The program is run by both the Alberta government and the government of Canada.
To qualify for the AAIP, applicants must possess the necessary skills that are in-demand for Alberta’s job market or have plans in place to start a business that supports the province’s economy. Additionally, prospective candidates must also prove and demonstrate that they will be able to financially support not only themselves, but their families as well once they arrive in Canada.
In May 2025 alone, the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) held two rounds of invitations just days apart. On May 13, 125 candidates were invited through the Alberta Opportunity Stream with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 76. As stated in the Government of Alberta’s website, candidates are required to either possess a valid positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) or an eligible LMIA-exempt work permit. In addition to the LMIA or LMIA-exempt work permit, they must meet all other eligibility requirements, including those related to residency and work permit type, occupation, language proficiency, education, a job offer from an Alberta employer, and relevant work experience.
Two days later, on May 15, 33 candidates were selected from the Tourism and Hospitality Stream, a stream for temporary foreign workers in Alberta, who had a minimum CRS score of 72. The government of Alberta website states that applicants must have a valid positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) in addition to meeting the same eligibility requirements mentioned above.
These were the second draws of the year for both the Alberta Opportunity Stream and the Tourism and Hospitality Stream, indicating the importance and popularity of this program as well as Alberta’s commitment to meet its 2025 immigration targets.
Alberta has been allocated 4,875 nominations for this year (2025). As of now, 2,077 invitations have already been issued, leaving under 3,000 spots still available. Evidently, with the frequency of regular draws under AAIP, these remaining spots are expected to fill quickly. Once the remaining AAIP spots are filled, new applications will be refused so don’t miss out on your chance to secure Canadian PR through the AAIP.
