Canada Work Permit Family Sponsorship
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) recently updated their required funds list for certain express entry streams. If you are an express entry candidate, you must update your proof of funds by July 28, 2025, at the absolute latest, to ensure that you remain eligible for permanent residency (PR).
Who Does This Apply To?
This requirement applies only to applicants under the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). It does not apply to applicants under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) stream of Express Entry.
If you do not update your proof of funds by the deadline which is July 28, 2025, your profile will be removed from the pool of candidates and you will not be eligible to receive an invitation to apply (ITA) for PR.
What Is the Updated Proof of Fund Requirements?
As listed on the government website, as of July 7, 2025, for a family of 1 the required amount of funds is $14,690, for a family of 2 it’s $18,288, for a family of 3 it’s $22,483, and for any additional family member after 7 family members, it’s $3,958 for each additional family member. Is Your Work Permit About to Expire?
If your work permit is about to expire, or if you need to make any changes at any point, you must apply for an extension at least 30 days before the expiry date. Delaying your renewal could affect your ability to stay and work legally in Canada.

This means your position in the candidate pool remains the same, which is important in case of a tie-breaker situation.
