Canada’s latest Express Entry draw invited 545 Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates to apply for permanent residence.
The CRS cut-off in the May 11 draw was 753. Provincial nominees are awarded an additional 600 CRS points in the Express Entry pool; prior to accepting a nomination, the lowest-ranking candidate had a CRS score of just 153.
Draw Number: 222
Date of Draw: May 11, 2022
Number of Invitations Issued: 829
Minimum CRS: 772
Program Specified: Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
Tie-breaking rule: December 15, 2021
Each Canadian province and territory (except Quebec and Nunavut) operate its own nominee programs. Each nominee program has its own unique eligibility requirements; while many require a connection to the province to apply (work experience, a job offer, a family member, or education in the province), there are also programs available to overseas workers without any connections to Canada.
Many PNPs also scan the Express Entry pool and invite profiles with in-demand skills or work experience. These requirements typically change from draw to draw in response to labour market or demographic needs.
If you are planning to enter the pool, it is a good idea to get started right away. Preparing the documents required for an Express Entry profile can be a lengthy process. With Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) and Canadian Experience Class (CEC) draws resuming in early July 2022, starting now will ensure you don’t miss out on a draw in your favour.
By preparing for the Express Entry process in advance, you can take steps to increase your ranking and maximize your chances of being invited to apply for Canadian permanent residence.
In the meantime, provinces continue to invite overseas candidates directly from the Express Entry pool. Just by having a profile in the pool of candidates, you have the chance of being invited through a provincial or federal draw.
