Ontario Masters and PhD Graduates Streams Accepting Applications | Canada Immigration News

12 Oct, 2017 Ontario Masters and PhD Graduates Streams Accepting Applications | Canada Immigration News

Ontario’s two immigration streams for international student graduates opened to new applications today, Thursday, October 12, 2017. These popular programs operate on a first-come, first-served model, and the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) will pause the programs again once they meet their intake quotas.

The International Students – Masters Graduates and International Students – PhD Graduates streams are both incredibly popular pathways to permanent residence for international student graduates in Ontario.

The last time the programs opened to new applications was early May, 2017. At that time, the Masters Graduates stream filled and was closed within hours. The PhD Graduates stream remained open for a couple of weeks before finally meeting its limit as well.

Neither of the streams require candidates to be in the federal Express Entry pool to be eligible to apply. Instead, applicants who have graduated from a Masters or PhD program from a university in Ontario are eligible to apply for a provincial nomination directly from the OINP. If their application is approved, they can then apply to IRCC for Canadian permanent residence.

Yesterday, the Nova Scotia Demand: Express Entry stream opened to new applications, and closed again within hours!

A provincial nomination from a stream aligned with Express Entry awards candidates 600 additional Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points, virtually guaranteeing an invitation to apply for permanent residence in the next Express Entry draw. And since a nomination from a stream that is not aligned with Express Entry still allows candidates to apply for permanent residence, even if they don’t qualify for Express Entry, a provincial nomination could be the biggest deciding factor in your immigration file.

However, since provincial nominee programs have a wide variety of eligibility criteria, and varying application guides, its important to stay actively aware of all of the provincial nominee programs for which you may qualify!
