Attorney Renaud Dery: A human approach to immigration

Published on: October 24th, 2018

Canadim Immigration Law Firm has now been in operation for nearly 20 years and has secured exceptional immigration results for thousands of clients! However, Canadim has not always been the bustling firm it is today. Attorney Renaud Dery launched Canadim in 2000 from an office in his Montreal apartment. Only through hard work and a dedicated, human approach to immigration has Canadim grown into one of Canada’s most successful immigration firms.

Renaud Dery: Humble Beginnings

Renaud’s journey with Canadian immigration started in his childhood. Growing up in the African country of Morocco, Renaud immigrated to Canada with his family when he was only 8 years old. Canada provided a wealth of opportunity for Renaud, especially the high-quality Canadian education system, where he excelled from a young age.

Renaud completed his Law Degree in Canada’s capital city at the University of Ottawa. He then broadened his understanding of international issues by obtaining his Master’s Degree in Law in England, from King’s College London.

After completing his studies, Renaud found his first job working for a busy corporate law firm in Montreal. However, he found that the corporate environment wasn’t for him. “Corporate law firms take the humanity out of the practice,” Attorney Dery told us. “I wanted to be part of a law firm that valued its clientele, treating them more like family than like case files.”

Fueled by his desire for a more human approach to law, Renaud left his corporate job to start his own practice. This practice, launched from a small office in his apartment, was the humble beginning of what would later grow into Canadim Immigration Law Firm!

On the ground: Meeting immigrants face to face

Renaud always believed that meeting his clients face to face helped make the immigration process more human. After all, immigration is a life changing process, so working with someone who understands you and your story always gives you an advantage! This is why Renaud started his immigration career with travels back to his home country of Morocco.

In the first year of his new legal practice, Attorney Dery would travel to Morocco, speaking with families and helping them to find the best pathway to Canada. Then he would return to Montreal, where he would work to get his clients approved for a new life in Canada.

As Renaud obtained results for his clients, word spread about his immigration practice and more and more prospective immigrants reached out to have Renaud assist with their Canadian immigration. After a year, Renaud set up the first business office for Canadim, and with a small, dedicated team, Canadim began to gain a reputation for success.

Over the next years, Canadim continued to grow. Renaud and his team travelled around the world to meet families interested in immigrating to Canada. Trips to the Middle East, Europe, and Southeast Asia, helped Renaud to understand the unique needs of immigrants in different cultures.
