Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced in a news conference today that the border between Canada and the US would remain closed.

In March, Canada and the US agreed to temporarily close the border to non-essential travel. The border was set to re-open on May 21, but due to the ongoing threat of COVID-19, authorities have moved to extend the border closure for at least one more month until the situation stabilizes.

During this time, Canada has allowed exemptions for certain foreign nationals to travel to Canada.

Although certain Canadian provinces are beginning to open up, Trudeau stated that the government will continue to assess the situation on a week-to-week basis.
