Quebec has announced new application intake periods for its entrepreneur and self-employed programs. The Quebec Entrepreneur Program will accept a total of 60 applications from November 1st, 2019 to September 30th, 2020. Of the 60 applications, a maximum of 25 applications will be accepted in stream 1 and 35 applications in stream 2.

The Self-Employed Worker Program will also begin accepting applications from November 1st, 2019 to September 30th, 2020. The program will accept a total of 50 applications during this time period.

Additionally, the province has revealed that it will not be accepting any new applications to its Quebec Investor Program from November 1st, 2019 to July 1st, 2020. According to the province’s immigration website, this will be to “allow time for the program to be reviewed”.

Do I Qualify for one of Quebec’s Business Programs?

If you have business management experience, you may qualify for one of Quebec’s business immigration programs. Newcomers with entrepreneurial experience may be eligible for the Quebec Entrepreneur Program. In addition to needing two years of experience running a business, it is required to have a minimum of $300,000 CAD in net assets and an approved business proposal to create or acquire a business in Quebec.

For foreign nationals who want to settle in Quebec to create their own job, they may qualify for the Quebec Self-Employed Worker Program. Applicants are required to have at least two years of experience as a self-employed worker, as well as $100,000 CAD in net assets.

It is important to note that while other factors such as age and education are taken into account, having proficiency in the French language is not required, making it a great option for newcomers with a business management background. Candidates who are accepted through one of these programs will be able to apply for a certificat de sélection du Québec (CSQ). Once receiving a CSQ, an applicant will then be eligible to apply for Canadian permanent residence.

Once an intake period has closed, there is no guarantee when the program may open up again. If you fit the credentials of Quebec’s Entrepreneur or Self-Employed Worker programs, now is the time to take advantage of these intake periods!
