Quebec Skilled Worker: New application system, Arrima, to launch in September

QSW moves to an Expression of Interest (EOI) system

As part of the August 2nd changes to Quebec immigration, the province announced that QSW will move to an Expression of Interest (EOI) system to manage the intake of applications. Modelled after the federal Express Entry system, the new system will require interested candidates to submit EOIs with their personal information in order to be considered for the program. Candidates will be assigned a score, based on the QSW points grid, and Quebec will select certain candidates and invite them to submit applications for QSW.

Currently, QSW is not accepting EOIs. However, in September, Quebec will introduce the new online platform, Arrima, where candidates will be able to prepare, submit, and monitor their EOIs. Arrima’s name comes from the French word “arrimage” which means harmonisation. Through the introduction of the system, Quebec hopes to harmonize immigration applications for QSW, allowing the province to more efficiently manage the intake of applications. When submitting their applications using Arrima, candidates will have to submit the following types of information:

• Personal information
• Contact details
• Family information
• Status in Quebec
• Education history
• Professional experience
• Job offers
• Language proficiency
• Other complementary information

Other changes to QSW

Aside from the introduction of the new Expression of Interest (EOI) system, QSW introduced a few other important changes in August. The QSW points grid was amended to include different levels of points for stays in Quebec as well as additional points for those with job offers in regions outside of the Montreal Metropolitain Region. Additionally, the number of points awarded for areas of educational training was changed.
