If you’re a Canadian citizen or permanent resident living in British Columbia (BC) and would like to hire a lawyer for your spousal sponsorship application, you may be wondering if you can hire an immigration lawyer who is not located within BC. The answer is yes, you can hire a law firm outside of the province where you reside for your immigration matters.
At Canadim, we are a Canadian immigration law firm registered in Quebec, but we are licensed to represent clients from across Canada, including BC. It is a common misconception that one must hire a lawyer who is physically located in the province where they live, but this is not the case at all. Our team of experienced immigration lawyers and professionals are happy to assist you with all immigration matters no matter where you live in Canada. We have experience in preparing and submitting applications for the whole of Canada.
The Canadian spousal sponsorship program allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner for permanent residency in Canada. The Canadian government places a high emphasis on this program, recognizing the importance of keeping/bringing families together also known as family reunification with the government of Canada.
As the sponsor, you must prove that you can financially support your spouse or partner, ensuring that they will not require government assistance once they arrive in Canada. This is a legally binding commitment. The duration of your financial responsibility will vary depending on your specific circumstances. However, we can provide personalized guidance and clarify the details based on your situation.
The sponsorship process can be complex, but at Canadim we have handled countless successful spousal sponsorship applications from all over Canada. While you may live in BC, our team in Quebec will make sure your application is completed correctly and efficiently ensuring the best possible outcome- always.
The Canadian Family class sponsorship program has two primary classes: Outland and Inland Sponsorship. To know more about what type of sponsorship application suits you best, you can read more about the details on our website or contact us for a free consultation.
For a spousal sponsorship application, as with any legal document, there are government fees attached that must be paid at the time of submitting your application,
Spousal Sponsorship fees start at $1,205. Depending on your case, there may be additional costs. If your sponsored spouse or relative has received social assistance from B.C., you must additionally pay back the amount they have received.
Many individuals in British Columbia may feel restricted by the idea that they must and can only hire a local BC lawyer for immigration services. However, hiring a lawyer from outside BC does not affect the quality or validity of the legal assistance you receive, if anything it gives you more options to find a lawyer that will handle your case more effectively.
Additionally, with the advancements in technology, distance is no longer a barrier. At Canadim we offer legal consultations over phone, email, and video conferencing, allowing you to access our services from the comfort of your home in BC.
Just because we are a Quebec-based law firm does not mean that we can’t assist you with your spousal sponsorship in British Columbia, or any other part of Canada for that matter. Reach out to us today to discuss how we assist you throughout your spousal sponsorship application process!
