Report: Only 10% of applications submitted by immigration lawyers are rejected

Published on: December 17th, 2018

The Toronto Star has released a report confirming a higher success rate for those working with an immigration lawyer as opposed to a consultant or without a representative. At Canadim we try to share as much immigration information with our audience as possible, and have written extensively on how best to avoid immigration fraud by choosing the right representative from the beginning.

The report, using data from Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada, finds that the chances for success are significantly higher for those hiring an immigration lawyer. With a lawyer, only 10.4 percent of applications were rejected, compared to 19.3 percent of those who prepared their own applications, and 18 percent of those who went with a consultant.

The Star looks to Marina Sedai, chair of the immigration section of the Canadian Bar Association to explain this difference. She attributed these numbers to Canadian lawyer’s “rigorous education, legal analysis skills and high ethical standards” that result in stronger outcomes.

Sedai also noted these numbers could be influenced by the culture of law in Canada as being motivated by passion instead of by business, meaning that lawyers will often take tougher cases. Lawyers are also more likely to advise clients against a hopeless immigration case in order to protect their time and resources.

The immigration process can be an extremely important moment in your life. Don’t sacrifice your time, money and energy on unsuccessful cases. Ensure your best odds at success and go with a representative you can trust.
