If you are currently in Canada on a temporary visa, there is no change in your status but if you leave Canada, you will not be able to return to until the travel restrictions are lifted.
Some applicants will be able to extend their permit if they are eligible. Another option would be to change your status to a visitor visa, provided your visa has not yet expired. If the visa has expired less than 90 days ago, it may be possible to restore your status.
In any case, whenever you are applying to extend or restore your status, you should include a note detailing the reasons why you are doing so. IRCC is taking special measures for applicants impacted by the Coronavirus pandemic and a note explaining that this is the reason why you wish to remain in Canada will be evaluated with special consideration by a visa officer.
If you planned to come to Canada on temporary status, unless you are a U.S. citizen, you will not be granted admission to Canada at this time.
There is no end date to these restrictions and that decision will evolve with time. Currently, any Canadian abroad has options to return to Canada and the government is providing financial support to facilitate their repatriation.
Anyone returning to Canada must self-isolate for 14 days.
This is an evolving development and we will update you as information becomes available.
