In 2018, approximately 280,000 profiles were submitted through Express Entry, a 10% increase in profiles from the previous year. Of these profiles, over 89,000 received invitations to apply for permanent residence (ITAs).
More than half of those invited were between the ages of 20 and 29, which is also the age category that receives the most points under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Also, 90% of invited candidates had a post-secondary credential.
Candidates can receive additional CRS points for a number of things. Having a Canadian education was the most common additional point type claimed by invitees. However, almost half of the invited candidates did not claim any additional points, and only 10% claimed points for arranged employment, showing that having a job offer is not required to receive an ITA.
Over 92,000 applicants and their families were admitted into Canada as permanent residents. In 2017, 65,423 applicants and their families were admitted.
India continues to be the most common country of citizenship among those admitted. Of the total number of applicants in 2018, 43% were from India. Nigeria came in second with 7% of applicants.
