Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
The Prince Edward Island (PEI) Provincial Nominee Program has held an Expression of Interest draw for candidates eligible under the Express Entry, Labour Impact, and Business Work Permit Entrepreneur categories.
The province issued a total of 143 candidates in their September 16th draw. Candidates who have received an invitation must now apply to the province for next steps. Successful nominees may subsequently be invited to apply for Canadian permanent residence.
To date this year, Prince Edward Island has invited a total of 1216 candidates under the Express Entry and Labour Impact streams and 121 candidates eligible under the Business Work Permit Entrepreneur stream.
Prince Edward Island hosts three of the following immigration categories that give prospective newcomers the chance to be nominated for Canadian permanent residence: Express Entry, Labour Impact, and Business Work Permit Entrepreneur.
To submit an Expression of Interest to PEI’s Express Entry stream, one must first be eligible to submit a federal Express Entry profile. In fact, anyone with an active Express Entry profile is eligible to submit an Expression of Interest to this. However, Prince Edward Island has indicated that they prioritize candidates with previous ties to the province.
Candidates that are successfully nominated under this stream will receive an additional 600 points toward their CRS score. These additional points will essentially guarantee and Invitation to Apply for permanent residence through the Express Entry system.
PEI’s Labour Impact Category offers three streams: PEI Skilled Worker, PEI Critical Worker, and PEI International Graduate. These streams require an eligible job offer in the province in addition to meeting other minimum language, education, and previous work experience requirements.
Candidates that meet the requirements of one of the Labour Impact streams can submit an Expression of Interest profile. Profiles are ranked and given a score. Like Express Entry draws, PEI does not release information on the criteria targeted in these draws but will prioritize those with ties to the province.
Applicants that are successfully nominated by the province will be invited to submit a non-Express Entry PNP permanent residence application.
To qualify for nomination under the Work Permit stream one must:
Candidates that submit an Expression of Interest through the Work Permit stream are ranked on a points-based system. The highest-ranking profiles will be invited to submit a complete application to Prince Edward Island, including a business plan.
Successful applicants will be issued a work support letter that will enable them to apply for work authorization and start their business in Canada.
These candidates will also be asked to sign a performance agreement outlining the conditions of their nomination. Once all conditions of a performance agreement have been met, candidates are invited to apply for nomination. Successful nominees will be invited to apply for Canadian permanent residence.
